Hon'ble Mr. Justice V.V.S. Rao

Honble Sri Justice Vakkala Venkata Subba Rao better known as V.V.S. Rao was born on 11th July, 1950 in Giddaluru in Kurnool District (now in Prakasham District) of Andhra Pradesh, India.  His ancestors hailed from Padakandla Village, Allagadda Taluq in Kurnool District.  After passing B.Sc., (Botany, Zoology and Chemistry) and B.Ed., he obtained M.A. (Criminology and Forensic Science) and L.L.B. from University of Sagar (now Dr. Hari Singh Gour University) in Madhya Pradesh.  He was awarded Dr. Ganesh Ram Mukharia Gold Medal for standing first in M.A. After completion of his Education in 1974 he joined the A.P. Industrial Infrastructure Corporation as Assistant Regional manager and resigned the job in August 1980 to set up legal practice.  He worked in the Chambers of Sri Muttanapalli Venkata Subba Rao and later with Justice P.L.N. Sharma.  He was designated as Senior Advocate in 1996.  As a lawyer he appeared in all important Civil Law, Public Law and Service Law cases in the High Court as well as the Service Tribunals.  He was the Standing Counsel for National Institute of Rural Development from 1991 to 1996 and Standing Counsel for High Court of Andhra Pradesh from 1987 to 1999.  Known for his academic interest in law. Presented papers and participated in number of National and International Seminars in India. He was the Vice-President and working President of International Jurists Organisation, A.P. Chapter and also a Member of the Indo-U.S. Legal Study Team in 1996 constituted by the High Court of Andhra Pradesh. Since his student days, he took keen interest in elocutions and   debating competitions and other school and college activities.   He is the first person from Kurnool district to have been elevated to Bench.  He was appointed as Additional Judge of the High Court of A.P., on 17.5.1999 and as Judge of A.P. High Court w.e.f. 20.4.2000.
