Hon'ble Mr. Justice G.B. Patnaik
Born on 19th December, 1937 at Cuttack in Orissa.
Had the schooling in P.M. Academy, Cuttack and passed the Matriculation in the year 1952.
Did his Intermediate in Science from Ravenshaw College, Cuttack and then came to Ewing Christian College, Allahabad for graduation.
Graduating from Allahabad University studied Law in Madhusudan Law College, Cuttack and after passing the law examination and on completion of Article-ship under a leading Civil Lawyer, enrolled as an Asvocate in the year 1962.
From 1962 to 1971 continued as a junior in different chambers and in 1971 appointed as the Standing Counsel to the Government of Orissa in Orissa High Court. As Standing Counsel dealt with Criminal Cases in the High Court.
Appointed as Additional Government Advocate in the year 1975 and later on became the Government Advocate in 1980 and continued as such till his elevation as permanent Judge of Orissa High Court in June 1983.
As Government Advocate had represented the State Government in the Supreme Court and in Orissa High Court in several civil and constitutional matters.
From 1983 to 1995 continued as a Judge in Orissa High Court and was appointed as the Chief Justice of Patna High Court in May 1995.
In September 1995, was elevated as the Judge of the Supreme Court of India. Special affinity of civil and service matters and other constitutional and taxation matters.
Sworn as Chief Justice of India on 8.11.2002.
Due to retire on 19.12.2002.
